Midnight Sun – Preface (by a fan)

I was inspired to write a preface for Midnight Sun…

Midnight Sun” by Stephenie Meyers, is my favorite of the Twilight Saga… even though it is (so far) an unpublished manuscript. However… that doesn’t stop me from wishing I had a copy of the book right now. Here is the preface I came up with.

—

I’d never given much thought to falling in love — though I’d had reason enough in the past few decades, being surrounded by three sets of perfectly matched lovers — but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this.

I stared without breathing across the long lab table into the dark, chocolate brown eyes of my prey, and she looked pleasantly back at me.

Surely this was not the best time to kill, in a room full of harmless children. Could I be noble enough to wait until they were gone?

I knew that if she had never come to Forks, she would not be facing death now. But thirsty as I was for her, I couldn’t bring myself to wish her gone. When life offers you the gift of blood this sweet, it’s not reasonable to grieve when you have to spill it.

The prey shook out her long, thick mahogany hair in my direction. I felt my resolve slip.

The monster inside me rejoiced.
